Dr. Katie Smithers is an RCVS-recognised Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Anaesthesia and a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (IVAPM). As a visiting veterinarian to Bermuda Veterinary Services, she brings specialist expertise in anaesthesia, analgesia, and pain management, focusing on improving comfort, recovery, and quality of life for all patients under her care.
A graduate of the University of Liverpool (BVSc 2015), Dr. Smithers also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies (PGCertVPS) and the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP). Her professional background spans first-opinion practice, referral hospitals, and advanced pain and rehabilitation services.
Dr. Smithers is the founder and director of Faith Referrals, a peripatetic anaesthesia and pain management service based in South Wales, UK. Her clinical approach integrates pharmacologic, manual, and complementary therapies—including acupuncture—to deliver tailored, multimodal pain management for each patient.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Dr. Smithers is an active member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists (ABVA), British Veterinary Association (BVA), Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists (AVA), and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM). Her published research in Veterinary Evidence explores advanced surgical and analgesic options for feline patients.
